| I have provided scans of the pages Dick appears in. The text is too small to read... this is deliberate. The purpose of the scans is to show other fans the scope of Dick's role. If you want to read, you will need to buy a copy of the comic... and support DC writers and artists. |

I love this story. I'm reading along and thinking - this writer has not only truly captured Roy's character, but has a great handle on Batman and Nightwing. When I looked at who the writer was... well, of course it is Devin Grayson. She captures the emotional side of the characters better than just about anyone.
Roy goes to Nightwing to ask for assistance. There are some great lines exchanged between these two. Realizing Batman is the better person for the job, Dick agrees to set up a meeting. I just adore Roy's reaction to this and his 'fear' of Batman. The story of Batman catching the arrow is brilliant and I love they way Dick reacts to Roy telling it again. (g)
Roy meets Batman and they work together to rescue Jade (the mother of Lian). What Roy doesn't seem to know is that the reason Jade has been doing what she's been doing is because the 'baddies' have Lian.
There are some terrific scenes between Roy and Batman. I particularly enjoyed when Roy asked for praise and Batman told him he was 'adequate'. Then we see Roy explode and it was interesting to hear him say, "you know, I've spent my whole life coming in second place to Dick, but hey, I'm man enough to admit that he can do things I can't. Plus, I've known all along the price he paid was having to deal with you." I guess that says it in a nutshell. I loved the way Devin Grayson ended this... with Batman saying simply, "I miss Ollie too." Talk about cutting the root of the matter. (g)
I think the saddest thing about this comic is that the first time I've read it is after DC screwed up Roy's life and murdered Lian. Lian was so good for Roy. To sell a few books they go for the shock element and destroy something that really worked. So sad.
If you are a Roy fan, this book is a must. If you love reading about the relationship between Roy and Dick, this book is a must... even though there are only a few pages focused on this. All in all, this is a must buy. (bg)
